Description:

The Beck Writing Award was established to financially assist students with a focused interest in writing.

  • A minimum of one scholarship of at least $1000 shall be awarded each year
  • Recipient must be a full-time program student taking at least one class through the UAS Ketchikan Campus during the semester the award is given
  • Recipient must have exhibited exceptional skill and interest in writing
  • Preference is given to students who have completed at least one semester of college-level writing classes with an average grade of B or above
  • Funds are credited to the student's account and available upon proof of registration
  • Deadline for the Fall 2016 semester application is Monday, June 6, 2016

Candidates should submit a variety of polished writing (academic and creative) with a total of 10-12 pages preferred.
Panel judges for this scholarship would also like to know a little about why you selected the pieces you did and anything else you might want to say about your writing that would help determine your candidacy for the award. Please type a short introductory note (a paragraph or two), and include it with your application.
Candidates are encouraged to submit written work that includes wider representation than just English (for example: history, psychology, geology...)
