Federal Finacial Aid - Step by Step


Follow each step carefully. This process allows the financial aid office to calculate a budget and offer you a personalized award package.


Step 1
Complete your FAFSA

Once you've completed the FAFSA, listing our school code (001065), we will receive an electronic copy and will be able to start the verification an award process.


Step 2      Check the status of your application on UAOnline
    • Once logged into UAOnline, follow this path: Financial Aid>UAS>My Eligibility>Student Requirements>Aid Year>Unsatisfied Requirements.

    • Submit all required documents to Financial Aid. 

Step 3
Accept your awards on UAOnline

Once logged in to UAOnline, follow this path:
Financial Aid > UAS > My Award Information >
Award by Aid Year > Accept/Decline Award Offer by Aid Year

If you do not see awards posted to your account, please check your "Unsatisfied Requirements" (step 2). Contact the Financial Aid office if you have any questions.


Step 4
Complete online Entrance Counseling if applying for Federal Stafford Loans

You only need to complete this step once, even if you have received a letter stating this requirement multiple times.


Step 5
Complete and submit the Title IV Authorization Form to the Financial Aid Office.

If you would like a refund of any excess federal aid funds, be sure to answer "NO" to question 3.


Step 6
Select a lender

View a list of lenders used by UAS students in the last three academic years.  You are not required to use a lender on this list, but you must notify us of the lender you select.


Step 7
Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans

You must complete a Master Promissory Note with your selected lender in order to borrow any funds from the Federal Subsidized or Unsubsidized Stafford Loan program.


Step 8
Notify the Finaid Office as to which lender you have selected and completed an appliction with.


Step 9
Alternative Loans (Optional)

If you need additional funds and have exhausted all other options, you may consider an alternative loan. You must sign a separate Master Promissory Note with a lender to borrow such a loan.

Step 10
Parent Loan for Undergratuate Students - PLUS
  • If you are offered a parent plus loan, remember, your parents must be the ones to accept and apply for the loan on your behalf.
  • If your parent's PLUS loan application is denied for credit reasons, you may be eligible to borrow additional Unsubsidized Stafford loan funds.
  • If your parents do not wish to apply for a PLUS loan, you may contact the financial aid office and discuss the possibilities of borrowing an alternative loan.
