Verifying your FAFSA
You may be asked to verify your FAFSA to determine that information has been reported accurately and that aid is distributed fairly.
If you are selected for the verification process
You will be asked to submit documentation for the base year in support of your application. For the 2008-2009 academic year (Fall 2008, Spring 2009 and Summer 2009), the base year will be 2007. For the 2009-2010 academic year, the base year is 2008.
Outstanding Requirements
You will also receive a letter from our office, informing you of any requirements for verification. You can review your outstanding requirements at UAOnline.
You may be asked for a signed copy of your complete tax return and W2's (the 2008 return for the 2009-2010 academic year), and/or a signed copy of your parents' complete tax return and W2's (2008 for 2009-2010). A complete tax return includes all schedules.
If you don't have a copy of your tax return, you can request a free tax transcript from the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 (listen for the option which says "... for questions about your personal tax records ..."). Or, send the IRS Form 4506. The transcript should arrive in the mail to the taxpayer address of record within 10 to 15 days.
You may be asked to complete one or more of the forms available on our Financial Aid Forms Page.
You may also be asked to submit one or more of the following:
- Worksheet Verification Form
- Low Income Statement
- a copy of your birth certificate,
- a copy of your Social Security card,
- a copy of your marriage certificate,
- military LES statements,
- copies of AFDC printouts,

Please let us know if you have any questions about requirements for verification.
