The philosophy of UAS Student Housing is to provide a living and learning environment that supports educational pursuits. Therefore, student housing is more than just a place to eat and sleep. It is a learning community that supports and nurtures residents. Educational as well as social programs are offered throughout the year to help students succeed.
Full-time, live-in professionals work with student community advisors to staff the housing complex and help create a positive, cooperative, structured atmosphere that supports the academic environment of the university.
Banfield Hall, the freshman residence facility, has coin-op laundry, study tables for homework, a 24-hour computer lab, and live-in staff members who are trained to offer assistance in situations ranging from an emergency to homesickness. For a virtual tour of housing please visit the campus tour page.
All residents have access to the housing lodge facilities that include fireplace, big-screen TV, 24/7-computer room, exercise and game room, laundry, mail, and a convenience store. Outside the lodge there is a sheltered barbecue area, basketball court, and children's play area.
Students have wireless internet access throughout student housing as well as the Juneau campus.
Student housing is located about ten minutes from the main campus. A well-lit trail provides easy walking access to the campus and Recreation Center.

The newest residence facility, Banfield Hall, is reserved for traditional aged entering freshmen and transfer students. The three-story coed hall has 42 rooms with two students in each room. Modular furniture allows options for room arrangement schemes.
Two rooms are joined into a suite for four, same-sex students who share a common entry vestibule and bathroom. The vestibule contains a small refrigerator and microwave. Each room has a phone (with free local service) and its' own heat regulation. Banfield Hall is wired for cable TV and can be activated by students.
Banfield Hall was designed for social interaction while protecting security and incorporating the privacy of a suite. To provide a secure environment, each student has a single, personal key that opens the outside door, the suite door, and the door to their room.
There are several common areas in Banfield Hall including a cozy lounge with three-story, full-length windows overlooking the nearby forest. There is also a community lounge, 24 hour-7 days a week computer room, laundry and common kitchenette.
The centrally located Lodge, with 24 hour computer lab access, convenience store, mailboxes, big screen television, laundry facility and exercise room serves as a hub for all students living in UAS Student Housing.
Upper division students and returning residents have priority for apartment style housing.
Each of the housing apartments has four bedrooms and is designed for four single students who have completed their freshman year. All apartments contain a complete kitchen and are furnished with sofa, tables, chairs, beds, desks and dressers.
Family apartments are also available on a limited basis. Handicapped-accessible apartments for single students and students with families, or attendants, are available.

We strive to offer low cost, nutritious food. Food service is provided in the Mourant Cafe located on campus, a short walk from housing. The menu includes lots of options: daily specials, meatless entrees with each meal, daily hotline specials, a fresh salad bar, sandwiches, soup, bagels, an assortment of soft drinks, a grill menu and more. The campus cafe, spikes, also features espresso and an alternative place for students to relax and meet people between classes.
Students in Banfield Hall are required to purchase a university declining balance meal plan (minimum $1,085 per semester). The declining balance card gives students the option to eat when and what they want, whatever's most convenient for them. Students residing in housing may also use their account at the Housing Lodge convenience store.
A winter shuttle is provided from housing to campus. Many students do choose to bring their own vehicles although this is not necessary considering public transit and the short walk to the Auke Lake Campus.
We ask that all residents respect others' right to live in a quiet, cooperative atmosphere. All UAS housing is non-smoking. Banfield Hall is substance-free and does not allow alcohol, drugs or tobacco products. Pets are not allowed in UAS Student Housing.
