I've lived in Juneau my whole life. I enjoy school a lot. I see being in student gov as a huge opportunity to not only get to know people on campus but to also perhaps make everyone's experience on campus just a little bit better.

Ever Since I was one year old, I knew the exact career I wanted. To be a Marine Biologist/conservationist of killer whales was my ultimate goal when I saw the connection between man and whale at SeaWorld San Antonio. Many people around me at the show “Believe” thought I would give up this dream of wanting to become a Marine Biologist. They thought it would sink and never surface to my thoughts ever again. They were right about one thing, my dream did sink. It sunk so deep into my heart that I never let it go. Becoming a Marine Biologist/ Conservationist was the ultimate goal. Many people in Texas(where I am from) thought my idea to come to Alaska for school  was ludicrous, but my passion for my major drove me to this kaleidoscopic area of marine life. Here I feel  it’s a home away from home, as it should be. The most beautiful place you could imagine to study Marine Biology is here in Alaska and now I get to do that. The next four years I plan to obtain my bachelors degree and then pursue a masters degree here at UAS. While in the process of my masters degree, I will become apart of a conservation as well as try to start my own for Killer whales. Once my masters degree is in my grasp I will then pursue a Doctorates degree in Marine Biology with a specialization in killer whale conservation/behavior.

Hello, my name is Naomi Rose Edenshaw. I am 18 years old. I have five brothers and one sister. I am the daughter of Rosalind Washington and Ivan Edenshaw. I am the granddaughter of Doreen Washington and Paul Washington. I am Haida and Tlingit of the Eagle clan. I was born in Ketchikan, Alaska and raised in Hydaburg, Alaska. I stayed there until I was about five years old. In 2002, I moved to Anchorage, Alaska, and I stayed there until I was in the eighth grade. After six years, I moved to Saint Paul Island, Alaska for the rest of school. I was the Valedictorian of my class of seven people.

What does my future look like? In the future, I plan on becoming a lawyer. I intend to become a prosecuting attorney. My goal is to attend an Ivy League college. My dream colleges are Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford. In the upcoming week, I want to apply for those colleges. If I get admitted to one of my dream colleges, then I will attend there next year. Furthermore, I am proud to be going here at the University of Alaska Southeast and having a great time with my first year experience. Go Whales!

I was born and raised in Valdez, Alaska and completed my Associate of Arts at Prince William Sound Community College in 2012. Shortly after that I moved to Juneau to finish my Bachelor of Liberal Arts and fell in love with the culture and environment of Southeast Alaska. As a student I worked in various positions within Student Services and Campus Life at both universities, and have known since then that I wanted to pursue a career in Student Affairs. I'm very excited for the chance to work with the students of UAS and be a part of their campus experience.
