Certified Nurses Aid (CNA) Training
The University of Alaska Southeast, in partnership with Wildflower Court and Juneau Pioneers' Home, provides CNA training during the fall and spring semesters to Juneau students. CNA is also offered in Sitka and Ketchikan. CNA Training is a 9-credit course designed to train entry level workers in basic skills needed to assist nurses and to be efficient health care team members. Students qualify to sit for the Alaska State Certification Exam for Nursing Assistants. Minimum of 75 lecture hours and 80 lab/clinical hours included. Offered on all UAS campuses.
CNA training is a sought after skill development program in an Alaskan market where CNAs are in short supply and is also a stable avenue for getting a foot into the health care industry. The course includes classroom instruction, lab training, skill practice and the clinical application of knowledge and skills. The sections are scheduled to allow for high school student enrollment. 98% of all University of Alaska Southeast CNA program graduates have passed the state exam and students are reporting immediate employment in their communities.
