Activating Accounts

Setting your initial password (account activation)

ELMO (Easy Logon Maintenance Option) provides an easy way to activate your computer account and set or reset your password. Your computer account is used to access your course web sites, campus computers, email, library databases, and other online services. Contact the help desk if you have problems accessing information in ELMO.

ELMO Start Page

For first time users:

  • Choose Option 3: Search for my account.
  • Enter your birth date, last name and last 4 digits of your social security number (International students without an SSN may need to contact the Helpdesk.)
  • ELMO will then prompt you with additional security questions generated with information from your university records.
  • Verify at least 5 pieces of information and click Confirm.
  • You will then be prompted to configure your security settings.
  • Strong uses the same vetting questions as the prior screen. Stronger adds a CaSe SeNsItIvE security question. Strongest means you MUST use your username and a valid password to utilize ELMO services.
  • ELMO will then provide your UAS username (“fmlastname” or something similar).
  • You can set your password in the box to the right after choosing your username from the drop-down menu.
  • Memorize your username and password. It will remain available across multiple services (email, UAS Online, campus computers, etc) for 400 days.
  • Click the Sign Out link when finished!

Updating your current password

Simply visit ELMO and use Option 1 to sign in. Once authenticated, update your password! Be sure to see the issues & workarounds below in case they apply.

Forgot your password?

If for some reason you can't seem to figure out your password, even after checking caps-lock and numbers-lock, you'll want to head into ELMO to change it. You can use Option 2 or 3 to search for your account and update the password.

Password Changing Issues & Workarounds

Occasionally, when a you access UASOnline you will be informed that your password is about to expire, at which point you will be redirected to ELMO where you can change your password. This can cause you problems with connections to UAS services on your computer.

How to Avoid the Trap

If you are...

...logged on to a campus computer while on campus:

after changing your password, immediately log off of the computer and log back on using your new password.

...logged on to a campus laptop that is off-campus:

While off campus, continue using your old password to sign into the machine only (web-services will use the updated password.) When available, bring the computer back to campus and log on using your new password; this will update the cached account on the machine.

...using a personal computer on campus:

disconnect and re-add any shared drives or mapped printers using your new password.
