Additional Guest or ”Sponsored” Access Information
Access to University resources is granted automatically to individuals based on their documented role and need for access. These include employees, vendors, students, etc. As a rule, if a person has no formal role with the institution, then we should not be providing access to resources. In fact, doing so would be a violation of many of our contractual agreements. In addition, providing access entails an element of risk as the University will be assuming a degree of liability for the safety and activities of the individual.
Even so, there are times where it is appropriate for access to be granted for limited periods of time. In these cases, IT requires written approval from a position with the authority to make budget and liability decisions on behalf of the University – typically a University executive such as a Dean, Provost, Vice Chancellor, Campus Director, or the head of a major campus department such as Facilities or IT Services. This written authorization serves to document the relationship with the university and the need and the limited time for the access.
