Lodge Dog Program
The Lodge Dog Program allows one professional staff member to house a dog in their on-campus residence that is to frequent the Lodge and be accessible to students. Addison Montgomery Shepherd, or “Addie,” is currently the Lodge Dog at UAS. Addie is a female golden retriever, still less than one year old. Addie is very social and always welcomes attention from students. Residents are able to play with Addie in the Lodge whenever she is present. She has a basket of approved toys, and usually she will present residents with her toy of choice, inviting them for an invigorating game of “tug” or “drag the limp dog.” Addie also has a leash that can be checked out from the Lodge Desk so that residents can take her for walks or short hikes.
For Addie’s health, safety, and to help encourage her to have good manners, residents are asked to observe Washko’s requests when playing with the dog.
- Addie should not be let outside unattended, or be taken away from the Lodge without a leash.
- Addie is not permitted to jump up on anyone (this is a rude habit that may cause her to hurt small children or damage clothing), to be up on couches or furniture, or to enter any student residences or Banfield Hall.
- Residents are asked to help deter Addie from investigating trash cans, eating people food, or chewing on things other than her toys.
Additionally, since Addie lives primarily in the Lodge, residents who take Addie outside are asked to keep her as clean as possible so that the Lodge isn’t dirtied and so that Washko doesn’t have to continually give her baths. Addie enjoys sunsets, cuddling, and walks on the beach.
