Rental Periods and Breaks
UAS Housing offers a Fall/Spring academic year housing agreement. Rates vary by housing style placement and are noted in the current housing agreement. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to complete the entire academic year in campus housing.
Students who do not plan to stay the entire academic year due to plans to study abroad or participate in an exchange program should note these intentions on their application or agreement, or notify the Housing Office as soon as their plans change. Residents who provide adequate advanced notice for breaking a housing agreement due to academic studies will not be penalized. A fall/spring agreement does not include winter break occupancy between the semesters, but does include spring break.
Opening and Closing
The campus calendar and the housing agreements identify the dates and times that student housing opens and closes. Students should pay special attention to these dates and will not be accommodated should they choose to arrive early or to stay beyond the agreement end date. Special approval may be granted by the Residence Life Manager, but will only be considered in emergency cases or to accommodate transportation scheduling restrictions from rural areas.
Winter Break
All fall semester residents intending to return for the spring semester will be provided with the option to remain on campus during the winter break at a cost of $275. Office hours and staff will be reduced, but a Community and Advisor and a professional live-in staff member will be present on campus at all times to assist residents during this time. Those who do not register to pay the winter break fee will be expected to turn in their room keys by the winter closing date or be charged the $275.
Summer Student Housing
A limited amount of space is reserved for summer students. Summer contracts are offered to students as early as March and granted at the discretion of the Residence Life Manager based on the following priority list:
- Students working for the offices of Residence Life or Housing during the summer
- Students enrolled in six or more credits during the summer session
- Students enrolled in fewer than six credits during the summer session
- Students working elsewhere on campus
- Students neither enrolled in classes or employed on campus but who have signed a fall agreement
- Others
Summer Conference Housing
In the summer, UAS Student Housing operates the Summer Conference Services program, enabling external parties to rent out housing units much like at a hotel. Summer conferencing operations help to subsidize revenue from the academic year and to keep costs down for students. Students may refer family members, friends, or others to the current Conference Services Coordinator, to inquire about renting rooms, suites, or even full apartments for periods ranging from a single night to the entire summer.
