Personal Wellness
The Residence Life and Student Wellness Offices work to promote healthy lifestyles, personal exploration and growth, positive relationships, and good health. Wellness entails more than just physical and mental health, but includes emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual well-being. A great deal of campus and community resources exist to support students as they seek out information and methods to improve their personal wellness. Students with concerns for themselves or others in any of these areas can approach a Peer Advocate, a CA, or another staff member to get information or to be referred to resources or professionals that might be helpful. Serious wellness risks for self or others should be reported to Residence Life staff immediately.
The Peer Support Office
The Peer Support Office (PSO) is conveniently located in Rm 108 of the Lodge. It is staffed by the Wellness Coordinator during daytime hours and a Peer Advocate in the evenings. The PSO serves as a confidential drop-in center for students where staff have access to many resources to support and assist their peers. PAs receive a great deal of training to serve as objective listeners as visitors think work dilemmas or brainstorm ideas. PAs are trained to facilitate conflict mediation and educated about general college student health and wellness issues. The PAs also facilitate wellness-oriented social and educational activities in Housing and on the main campus. The PSO phone number is 796-6391.
