Personal Vehicle Registration
and Parking
Residents may register their personally-owned vehicles to obtain a parking permit to be able to park in the Student Housing lots. Currently, there are no parking permits required to park elsewhere on campus. Single residents are limited to one vehicle, and residents of a family unit may collectively have a total of two vehicles. Residents are responsible for the security, safety, driving, and parking of their vehicle(s) when in the student housing complex. They are also responsible for the behavior of their guests, and are urged to help ensure that guests respect parking signs and policies.
All registered vehicles in the student housing parking lots must always be in working order, noticeably being moved and driven from time to time. Vehicles found to be in a state of disrepair or that are not operable will be ticketed and eventually towed at the owner’s expense.
Vehicle Registration
Residents may register their vehicles at any time during the semester, and are expected to register them as soon as the vehicles are brought to the housing complex. The cost, per semester, for a student housing parking permit is $50. Additional vehicles may be registered, for a fee of $75 per semester, at the discretion of the Residence Life Manager as space permits. To register a vehicle, residents must:
- complete a vehicle registration form, available at the Lodge Desk
- attach photocopies of a valid driver’s license,
- unexpired proof of insurance,
- the vehicle’s valid registration.
It is not necessary for the driver, or steward, of the vehicle to be the owner, but students registering a vehicle that is not owned or co-owned by themselves or their parents should obtain a written statement form the owner giving consent for the vehicle to remain in student housing in the resident’s possession.
The Residence Life Manager may pro-rate permits for vehicles only present for a smaller portion of a semester. Students who depart student housing early or who no longer own vehicles originally registered are not entitled to any refund of the semester parking permit fee. Students who wish to switch registration from one vehicle to another, such as if they sell one vehicle and obtain another, may do so by registering the second vehicle, at no extra charge. The permit from the first vehicle will be reassigned to the new vehicle.
Students may not register, nor park in the housing complex lots at any time:
- boats
- campers
- RVs
- snowmobiles
- jet skis
- 4-wheelers
- ATVs
- any other recreational vehicle.
Additionally, commercial and industrial vehicles and machinery may not be parked in student housing. Questions or special cases should be directed to the Residence Life Manager.
Parking Lots
All parking spaces atop University Drive in the housing complex require a parking permit. Designated visitor parking spaces are indicated with signs, and will eventually all be located in the small lot by A Building, adjacent to the playground. Residents may not park in visitor spaces, so that guests have adequate parking space. These are not intended for overnight parking, and non-registered vehicles that remain in visitor parking for extended periods may be ticketed or towed.
Parking Permits
Residents who have registered their vehicles will receive a parking permit with mounting instructions in their mailboxes. Permits are to be immediately placed in the lower passenger-side corner of the windshield. Individuals found to have an invalid or stolen parking permit in their windshield, or found to have lent or given their permit to the driver of an unregistered vehicle, will be charged a minimum of $50 and be subject to disciplinary action and/or towing.
Temporary parking permits valid for up to seven days may be requested from the Residence Life Manager for guests who have been registered with the Residence Life Office for an extended stay with a resident in student housing. There is no cost for a temporary permit. Those with temporary visitor parking permits must still park in the visitor lot.
Summer and Winter Break Parking
Over the winter break between the fall and spring semesters, returning residents may leave their registered vehicles in the lower lot. They may find that their vehicles have been plowed into spaces since snow removal will persist during the break in their absence. Winter break residents may park their registered vehicles at no charge.
Over the summer session, residents paying rent for the summer semester can park their vehicle at no cost, though their vehicles must remain registered with the Office of Residence Life and the permit must remain visible in the vehicle’s windshield. Students planning to return to student housing in the fall semester but who are absent over the summer may pay $50 to register their vehicles for summer storage in the lower lot, and must present the Residence Life Manager with a key to the vehicle and their summer contact information before departing. Student vehicles found to be left in the parking lot without proper summer registration will be towed, or if the owner can be identified, assessed the $50 registration charge plus an additional $50 improper registration fee.
