Halloween at UAS
Halloween is a little more whacky than spooky at UAS. But any way you categorize it, it's a lot of fun.
Departments coordinate their costumes and decorate their work areas to portray a theme, from "Battlebots" to "Under the Sea". Some departments plan for months -choreographing dances, plotting strategies, and building pirate ships to annihilate their competition. See the Media Showcase website for a few great videos.
At noon on Halloween, the University community gathers at Spike's coffee shop to watch Student Government complete the judging for the annual UAS Halloween costume contest. Previous categories included best department, best individual costume, and best theme. And it gets competitive to earn the bragging rights that accompany those titles.
The typical line-up of events includes the recreation center hosting a pumpkin carving contest followed by a dance and student housing sponsoring at "Kitty Carnival" in Banfield Hall for all Juneau youth. The kids are encouraged to wear their costumes, play games, win prizes and eat treats!
For the line-up of this year's events be sure to keep your eye on the Campus Calendar!
The other 364 days of the year are dedicated to learning, but Halloween is dedicated to having fun, being silly and stepping outside of your normal role.
