Snow Ride: Ski or Ride where you study

Get a higher education on campus and on the hill. Save money, earn a college degree and enjoy some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the Northwest at UAS!

Whether you are seeking back country adventure, heli-riding or a snowsports resort, Juneau, Alaska has some of the most extreme and exciting ski and snowboard terrain in the world.  The terrain resembles a cross between coastal New Zealand and the Swiss Alps. Alpine mountains along the saltwater Inside Passage create a maritime snowpack that ranges from powder to velvet.

The UAS Outdoor Studies program offers courses in backcountry skiing and snowboarding, mountaineering and ice climbing. For this Spring's ODS classes view the online class schedule.

The Juneau Icefield and Eaglecrest Ski Area are premiere sites for freeski and snowboard filmmakers.

Eaglecrest resort is a community owned operation, with a vertical drop of about 1401 feet. More than thirty trails spread over 640 acres of terrain. At Eaglecrest, you’ll find everything from easy, wide open cruisers, to tight and challenging chutes as well as a terrain park, steep faces and open bowls. Eaglecrest consistently ranks among the top resorts in the world for most snow. This friendly resort offers FREE lessons and substantial discounts on lift tickets to UAS students!

"I go to UAS because it is an inexpensive way for me to get an education while having a great time in a place that I love. My favorite part about skiing locally is the quick access to incredible terrain." --Will Geiger

"Don't be fooled by the number of lifts and relative unknown stature of Eaglecrest.
This is Alaska, and our home mountain is for rippers." --Alaska Powder Descents

Students and faculty with the UAS Environmental Science program maintain a web cam and weather station that measures temperature, snow depth and complete meteorological conditions at Eaglecrest Ski Area.
