Alaska State Museum: Greet visitors, give tours, work with exhibits
The Alaska State Museum relies heavily on volunteers to greet visitors, give tours and help with many behind-the-scenes tasks, including putting up exhibitions and working with collections.
Docents are trained for their jobs through a series of lectures each spring by experts on Alaska subjects, including Native peoples, mining, natural history, early exploration and the arts. Training to help with exhibitions, conservation and special projects is also available. Volunteers can also help by working with the Friends of the Alaska State Museum in hosting exhibition opening receptions and working in the Museum Store.
