Transfer Students
Credit for coursework taken at other institutions will be transferred subject to the following considerations:
- Whether the institution is regionally accredited
- The comparability of the coursework with University of Alaska Southeast coursework.
- The appropriateness of the coursework for meeting degree requirements at UAS.
Transfer coursework is reviewed in the Office of Admissions to determine:
- If the course transfers.
- If the course meets any of the University's liberal education requirements, or if the course has been evaluated previously for major requirements.
After admission we will review your transfer coursework, and you will receive a Transfer Credit Equivalency Report showing the courses and total credits transferred and the courses that did not transfer. The Student Resource Center can provide you with a degree check sheet showing how those courses would apply towards the degree you are pursuing. See Transfer Credit Policies for specific information on transfer of your courses from other institutions. An estimattion of transferability can be received at the UA Transfer Credit Resource Site.
Other opportunities for credit
There are several ways to receive academic credit for non-collegiate learning experiences. You may receive credit by earning satisfactory scores on one of the standardized national exams such as: the Advanced Placement (AP) program, or the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). The University offers proficiency examinations and special examinations for credit at the discretion of academic departments. If you feel that your knowledge of a subject is equal to that required to complete a course at UAS, you may request to take a department exam for credit after you enroll. If you pass the exam at a satisfactory level, you will receive credit for the University course.
UAS awards credit for learning experiences through employment and schooling received through the military. The amount and level of credit given is determined during the admission process after review of your DD214 or military arts transcript.
