Disability Services

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 requires that universities provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities in order to ensure equal access to all academic and co-curricular programs and services.

Students with disabilities have a right to:

  • Equal access to all courses, programs, services, and activities offered through the University.
  • Individualized accommodations.
  • Effective academic adjustments/aids.
  • Confidentiality.
  • All other rights available to other students at UAS

Students at UAS have a responsibility to:

  • Self-identify and self-advocate.
  • Make reasonable requests in a timely manner.
  • Meet qualifications and maintain essential standards for courses, programs and activities.
  • Provide appropriate documentation.
  • Follow university procedures

What to do if you need services?

To request accommodations contact the Ketchikan disabilities Coordinator Chris Hoyt (228-4505) christopher.hoyt@uas.alaska.edu as soon as possible. You are required to provide official documentation of your disability. The Disability Services Coordinator will work with you to determine reasonable accommodations for each individual course. Once established, faculty will be given a letter which outlines the accommodations established for the student. Faculty must allow the accommodations.

The nature of all disabilities is held extremely confidential.
