Financial Aid
We realize the ability to receive financial aid often determines whether or not a student is able to pursue their academic goals. It can help pay for tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, transportation, school-related child care costs, and miscellaneous living expenses.
Financial aid is available from state and federal governments, the university, and many private organizations through grants, scholarships, loans and employment opportunities to students who demonstrate need for such assistance. The majority of UAS Ketchikan students qualify for some form of financial aid. Most families use a variety of resources to pay for a college education. To apply for financial aid complete these Step by Step instructions.
Types of resources avalable include:
Loans: enable you or your parents to borrow money to pay for school. You must repay the money over time. If you qualify for subsidized loans, you do not have to pay interest on those loans during college. If you qualify for unsubsidized loans, you do have to pay interest during college.
Merit scholarships: are gifts of money that do not need to be repaid. Scholarships usually recognize special achievements in academics and leadership, and they can come from a variety of sources.
Need-based grants: are funds that do not need to be repaid. They are generally awarded to students with the greatest financial need.
Student employment: is not based on financial need. The Ketchikan campus hires many student workers each semester.
Payment plan: allows you and your family to pay expenses in payments throughout the semester.
Deadlines and requirements for each program vary. Students are encouraged to begin pursuit of financial aid as soon as possible in order to secure the best possible financial aid package.
