2005 Faculty

Jonathan Anderson is Assistant Professor of Public Administration at UAS where he directs the Master of Public Administration program. He previously worked in the public sector as a United States Foreign Service Officer and in the private sector as a small business owner. His research interests focus on democratic theory and conflict resolution.

Rhonda Hickock is currently employed at the Juneau School District as a Program Coordinator for grants that serve Alaska Native/Native American students. Her most recent position was the PITAS (Preparing Indigenous Teachers for Alaska Schools) Program Coordinator at UAS. She has been the co-instructor of record for Communicating Across Cultures and Alaska Alive with Father Michael Oleksa. Rhonda has a Masters Degree in Cross Cultural Studies from UAF, a Type A Teaching Certificate and is currently working on her Type B Administrative Certificate.

Carol Prentice is an adjunct faculty for the UAS Public Administration program where she teaches "Managing Nonprofit Organizations." She holds a Master of Public Administration from the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs, University of Washington. Her career includes administration, policy and program development in health care and education. Currently, Carol is the program manager of a federal grant in the area of early childhood for the University of Alaska Southeast.

Claire Richardson has worked for more than 20 years in journalism and public relations. During her 13-year career in radio and TV news, she covered the Iditarod, the Inuit Circumpolar Conference in Greenland , the EXXON VALDEZ oil spill, whale hunting in Barrow, and hundreds of other stories for news organizations including the Alaska Public Radio Network, Associated Press, National Public Radio, Anchorage Daily News, and KTOO FM & TV in Juneau . Claire served eight years in the Knowles/Ulmer Administration as deputy press secretary and director of communications. She coordinated television, radio and Internet coverage as well as communication outreach and strategic media planning for Knowles' top policy priorities.   Claire continues to provide media training to private clients in Alaska

Kevin Ritchie is Executive Director of the Alaska Municipal League, a statewide organization that represents 139 municipalities.  He began his career in public service as a VISTA volunteer working with the Tacoma Urban League.  He worked for the City and Borough of Juneau in a variety of administrative roles including City and Borough Manager from 1985-1992, making him Juneau's longest tenured City Manager.

Elizabeth Schelle is employed at UAS as faculty, academic advisor and director of study abroad programs. She has taught speech communications courses as adjunct faculty for 20 years, worked in international and minority student advising, and with non-profit management. She is a certified instructor for the Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Program and most recently as a Global Ethics seminar trainer.

Brian Sonner served for two years as a Special Assistant to the Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources functioning as an internal consultant in management and organizational development.  He is a retired Coast Guard Captain.  During his 30 year career he served in Washington DC at Coast Guard Headquarters, in London for the Coast Guard Activities Europe, and throughout the United States.  Brian retired as Chief of Staff for the Coast Guard in Alaska.
