The Circulation Desk is located at the entrance to the Egan Library for easy drop off and check out of materials, issuing of library cards and updating your library account. Stop there to pick up holds, checkout equipment (including laptops), interlibrary loans, and course reserve items.
Egan Library circulation polices apply to all UAS students (including e-Learning), faculty, staff and Juneau local users with CCL/JLC library card, unless otherwise noted.
Joint Library Consortium
The Egan Library as part of the Capital City Libraries (CCL) merged library catalogs with the Joint Library Consortium (JLC) in 2013. Egan Library users may now borrow materials from any of the libraries listed below. There over 1.5 million items in our combined library catalog spanning libraries from Juneau to Kodiak. Library cards issued at any participating JLC Library can be used at the Egan Library.
Library cards are issued to UAS Students and Alaska residents with a photo ID, and may be used at all JLC Libraries. The first library card is free; replacement cards cost $2.00. UAS Students, Faculty and Staff may have their Whalecard set up as their library card (requires latest version with scanable barcode/UAid# on back, replacement Whalecards are $10). A limited use card is available to non-residents. Library cards are also issued to enrolled UAS e-learning students by filling out the library card registration form. Your card will be mailed to you once you are entered into our circulation system. Egan Library online resources (journal article databases, ebooks, etc) are accessible using your UAS username and password (ListenAlaska is the only exception, use your library card #). Having trouble logging on? Get help.
(Login using barcode or UAID# and pin. Forgot pin? Call 907-796-6300).
Most circulating books may be checked out for 28 days. Media items (DVDS, Videos, CDs) and Featured Magazines may be checked out for 7 days and equipment items (laptops, graphing calculators, headphones and more) vary from 2 hours to 14 days. UAS faculty members (faculty borrowing privileges may also be extended to visiting faculty from other UA campuses and to staff from Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center cooperating partner agencies) have an extended loan period of 120 days for Egan Library circulating books. Items may be borrowed from any library in the Joint Library Consortium (alternate checkout periods may apply) and may be returned to any participating library regardless of where the item was borrowed.
A total of 40 items may be checked out from the JLC libraries at one time. Only 10 of those may be media items (CD/DVD/VHS) or magazines.
Materials may be renewed a total of two times. For books, this means two additional 28-day periods and for CD/DVD/VHS and featured magazines, two additional seven-day periods. Materials must be brought back to the library for the second renewal. Items may not be renewed if another borrower has requested them.
All users are responsible for returning materials undamaged by the due date. Users in Juneau or Southcentral Alaska may return materials to any CCL/JLC Library, as our delivery system will return items to the appropriate library. There is a book drop outside of the Egan Library for returning items when the library is closed. E-learning students are responsible for returning materials undamaged by the due date either to a participating JLC Library or through the U.S.P.S. E-learners on the Sitka Campus may return materials to the Student Success Center (room 226).
