New Student Orientation will:
- Ease your transition to college
- Teach you skills necessary for academic success
- Help you build new friendships
- Give you a sense of belonging to the University of Alaska Southeast
New Student Orientation is REQUIRED for all new, full-time students registered for 12 credits or more. Orientation is highly recommended for any new students registered for less than 12 credits.
Students participating in the National and International Student Exchange program are also required to participate, contact the Academic Exchange Office at (907)796-6455 for more information.
New Student Orientation - Juneau Campus
Orientation Mission
The UAS Orientation mission is to assist new students in making a successful transition, academically and socially, into the UAS culture and community.
Orientation Goals and Objectives
The goals of New Student Orientation are:
1. Relationships: for students to begin to cultivate meaningful relationships with members of the UAS community (i.e. advisors, mentors, student life professionals, faculty members, other upper-class students, and fellow first-year students).
2. Academic Processes's: to orient students to UAS academic processes such as reading a class schedule, understanding University terminology, and navigating University online systems and software.
3. Campus Facilities and Services: to orient students to buildings and facilities on the main campus as well as student support services.
Orientation Options
Fall Orientation consists of a three hour Orientation for students registered for 6 credits or less, a 2 day Orientation for students registered for 12 credits or more, and a half day Orientation for parents of new college students.
Spring Orientation consists of a half day Orientation for new students.
Cost
Fall Full-Time Students - Required to attend Orientation. The cost to attend Fall Orientation is $75 and will be billed to your student account automatically for new admitted students who are registered for 12 or more credits. Students registered for less than 12 credits will be billed after you sign-up. This fee covers materials, activities and food for both days of Orientation.
Fall Part-Time Students - Optional to attend. The cost to attend is $25 and will be billed to your student account after you sign up. This fee covers materials, activities and food during the evening of Orientation.
Spring - The cost to attend Spring Orientation is $40 and will be billed to your student account automatically for new admitted students who are registered for 12 or more credits. Students registered for less than 12 credits will be billed after they sign-up. This fee covers materials, activities and food during the day of Orientation.

Gain Your Bearing and Chart Your Course to Success!
New Student Orientation for the UAS Juneau Campus will be held Thursday August 29th through Saturday August 31st, 2013.
The optional Spirit Of Alaska Retreat (SOAR) program will be held on Sunday September 1st, 2013.
New Student Orientation will:

New Student Orientation is intended to get you familiar with campus and how to navigate the resources available to you at UAS. We strongly recommend you take care of any unfinished enrollment needs prior to attending Orientation.
The Spirit Of Alaska Retreat (SOAR) will:
- expose you to outdoor activities with your fellow college students in Southeast Alaska;
- build strong relationships, teambuilding, leadership and communication skills;
- explore what Juneau has to offer;
- provided additional support and engagement opportunities for you prior to classes starting.

Student Orientation Spring 2014 Schedule
We encourage new students to take care of any unfinished enrollment needs before Orientation. This includes:
- Registering or making changes to your schedule;
- Paying for your classes;
- Purchasing books;
- Getting your UAS Whale card;
Thursday January 9th, 2014 - Housing move-in
Student Housing is open for move-in for new students. There will be transportation from both the ferry terminal and the airport. If you need transportation from either the ferry terminal or the airport, please contact Julie Staveland at jcstaveland@uas.alaska.edu.
