Placement Tests
High School
Graduates who haven't taken college mathematics, English or computer classes will need to take placement tests before meeting with an academic advisor and prior to registering for those classes at UAS.
Exceptions:
- English III will be waived for students who score 30 points or higher on the ACT exam, or 620 points or higher on the SAT exam.
- Students who take the CLEP English Composition with Essay and score 500 points or higher will receive 3 semester hours of credit for English III. NOTE: The CLEP General Exam in English Composition without Essay will be transferred as elective credit only. Students cannot challenge English 211 or 212.
- Also, students who score a 3 or higher on the College Board Advanced Placement Exams, in many instances, can receive college credit upon submission of official report of scores received by UAS Admissions in conjunction with their admission into a UAS degree program.
Transfer Students
Students who have taken math, English or CIOS classes at a previous college or university, in most cases, will not need to take placement exams. Students who then wish to take UAS math, English, or CIOS classes would meet with academic advisors who will utilize their transfer evaluation to determine appropriate placement in UAS classes. Transfer students who have not taken math, English or CIOS classes at their previous school(s) would need to take placement exams prior to registering for such classes at UAS.
