An Energy Plan for Alaska without Oil: The Technology. The Possibilities. The Plan

Getting un-addicted to imported oil through alternative energy is the focus of the next UAS Evening at Egan. Lecturer Greg Brown will outline three plans for using resources other than oil to cease dependence on foreign oil for Alaska and the nation. Brown’s ten year plan could lead to a reduction in emissions, reduce taxpayer costs, and cut the trade deficit by $700 billion. The United States imported about 24% of its oil in 1970. That percentage has grown to 70%. “This is a transition plan from imported oil that includes natural gas,” said Brown. In addition, Brown will discuss several alternative energy technologies, including bio mass, solar, nuclear, wind, geothermal, tidal, coal and hydro.

Greg Brown is a retired CEO of several energy and electricity related corporations, including divisions of Siemens, Schneider and Xantrax. He is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and speaks annually to Harvard MBA students

The Evening at Egan lecture series is held every Friday (unless noted) at 7 p.m. through November 21, 2008. Please note, there is no Evening at Egan lecture on October 31.
