Ted Stevens Foundation Donates $10k to UA Legislative Internship Program with Additional $10k Matching Gift Challenge
The program places Alaskan students from UAA, UAF and UAS in legislative offices during session in Juneau. Students are awarded up to $5,000 based on need and merit to help meet living expenses while working in the state capitol. They earn UAS academic credit as part of the program and participate in weekly leadership seminars.

The endowment will provide scholarships and research experiences for UAS students studying in the fields of mariculture and/or fisheries.

UAS Juneau Campus Shuttle Improves Safety and Access for Students
Part of the imperative to try a shuttle service now stems from the upcoming road realignment in the Auke Bay area and how this may impact access and safety. UAS will carefully monitor the success of the shuttle program over the next two years to help shape any long-term strategy. As this is a pilot program, there will be multiple opportunities for campus stakeholders to provide feedback on how the program might be improved.

Although enrollment services are available all of the time, this one-day event brings all of these offices together at one location so that students can move through the enrollment very efficiently, and is one week prior to the deadline for admissions.

Wagner stated, “I am thankful that the bear did not hurt any of the people I led onto Mt. Emmerich, and for the overwhelming support I’ve felt since the incident from family, friends, and colleagues. It is my privilege and obligation to share and participate in adventure settings in the natural world. I harbor no ill feelings toward the bear.”

Chancellor Rick Caulfield said “I commend the students for their quick action in responding to this situation and appreciate the prompt response from Alaska State Troopers, Haines Police, Temsco Helicopters, and medical staff in Haines, Juneau and Anchorage. Our thoughts are with faculty member Forest Wagner as he recovers from this incident, and we are thankful that all involved are safe.”
