27, 1998 Piano and percussion will be featured during a free concert at UAS Saturday (April 4) starting at 8 p.m. in Hendrickson Building room 113. Two University of Alaska Fairbanks music faculty members, Pianist Eduard Zilberkant and percussionist Scott Deal, will perform works by Chopin, Cahn, Rosauro, and Kreisler. The program will begin with Zilberkant playing all 24 of Chopin's preludes. In addition both will perform pieces written for piano and marimba. Deal will also play one piece written for marimba and on another piece he will play variety of instruments including the chimes, bells and glockenspiel. Zilberkant was born in Russia and gained critical acclaim after his debut with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at age 16. He is a grand prize winner of numerous national and international piano competitions including the 1985 Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland. He is presently assistant professor of piano at UAF. Deal was formerly the timpanist of the Miami Symphony. He is past winner of the prestigious Music Teacher's National Association Concerto Competition and others. He is presently assistant professor of percussion and world music at UAF.
