7, 1998 JDHS seniors will spend Friday on the UAS campus as part of Senior Day activities designed to help them prepare for college, explorer career possibilities and get ready for life after high school. University of Alaska President Mark Hamilton will deliver the keynote welcome to the seniors at 8 a.m. "Students are at the point they have to start making some decisions about what they're going to do after Juneau Douglas High School," according to Greg Wagner, UAS director of admissions. A series of four different sessions will be offered throughout the morning. During each session seniors will select one of seven different presentation topics. They include: College Search, Financial Planning, College Essays, What UAS Can Do For You, Working Full-Time, Taking a Year Off. In addition presentations will be made on careers in fields such as law, math, science, military, education, medical, dental, and business. "We're kind of laying it out there for them," Wagner said. "If the students come, and their jazzed, and they ask good questions we have some real good presenters, some real experts, that will help give them a little direction." Hamilton's presentation will be in the Chapel by the Lake. This is his second visit to the Juneau campus since being appointed president of the university. The Senior Day sessions will be held in the Chapel and in UAS classrooms. Students will also be able to take placements on campus.
