November
11, 1998 The UAS Alumni Association is encouraging everyone to wear their university sweatshirt, hat or pin on Friday as a show of support for education. Ruth Danner said UAS alumni would be wearing their sweatshirts. "We'd like the rest of community to also show their support and their pride in their education by wearing their sweatshirts, pins, hat or whatever they have. It could be UAS, UAF, UAA, or Harvard or any institution just to show your pride in higher education." Danner, who is president of the UAS alumni association, said, "We've been spending a lot of time during the political campaign telling people how important education is. This is a non-political opportunity to say education really is important, and I wasn't kidding." The alumni have also organized a UAS "Night at the Hangar" on Saturday for alumni, students, and friends of the university. There will be an education birthday cake, door prizes and other surprises between 8 and 10 p.m. at the Hangar on the Wharf.
