6, 1999 Marshall Lind will preside over his last commencement as chancellor of the University of Alaska Southeast Friday, May 7, starting at 7:30 p.m. in Centennial Hall. Lind has been appointed chancellor of the Fairbanks campus and will assume his new duties later this summer. About 240 students have qualified for graduation from the UAS Juneau campus. Dr. Lawrence Lee Oldaker, who is retiring after 24 years at UAS, is the commencement speaker. Christy Leer, who is graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, is the student speaker. The university will present an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letter degree to artist Rie Muĝoz. UA President Mark Hamilton will attend the commencement along with Board of Regents members Elsa Froehlich Demeksa of Juneau, Brian Rogers of Fairbanks, and Annette Nelson-Wright of Juneau. Wright, a UAS student, is completing her term as the student regent. Commencement music will be presented by Juneau Brass and sung by Bill Garry. The public is welcome to attend UAS commencement. No tickets are necessary.
