June
22, 1999 Marshall Linds public farewell party is set for Wednesday, June 23, from 5:30 7:30 p.m. at the Hangar on the Wharfs ballroom. Lind has been chancellor of the University of Alaska Southeast for the past 12 years. He has accepted appointment as University of Alaska Fairbanks chancellor and begins his new duties August 1. "Its a real informal social," according to Tish Griffin of UAS who is helping organize the event. "Well have less than five minutes of speeches. Itll just be a chance for people to come by and talk to the chancellor, and Lois will be there. Its a chance to say goodbye and thanks for 12 years of hard work at the university." The reception is open to the public. "Its a Wisconsin menu that he requested," according to Griffin. "Were going to have brautwurst, sauerkraut and Wisconsin cheese." Lind began his career in education in 1959 as a junior high teacher at Bonduel Community Schools in Bonduel Wisconsin. Lind, and his wife Lois, moved to Alaska in 1961 and taught for six years in rural Alaska in Kwigillingok, Goodnews Bay and Emmonak. Lind also served as superintendent of Schools in Kodiak, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Education for 14 years, UAS visiting faculty, and UAS dean. He has been UAS chancellor since April 1987. -30-
