September
16, 1999 A free, public presentation relating to the Holocaust will take place Saturday (Sept. 18) at 5 p.m. in Egan Library on the UAS campus. UAS Professor Priscilla Shulte will discuss her grandfatherÍs role in leaking information about the Nazi death camps to the Allies during World War II. Her talk is titled, "Breaking the Silence: Perspectives from a RescuerÍs Family." The presentation is part of the on-going Varian Fry exhibition at Egan Library that was organized by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. "Eduard Schulte was an important German industrialist who leaked information about the Nazi death camps to the Allies," according to Robin Walz, UAS history professor. "He is recognized as one of the "Righteous Among the Nations" by Vad Yashem in Israel. His life story is presented in Walter LaqueurÍs "Breaking the Silence" (1986) on reserve in the Egan Library. Schulte will be discussing her grandfather's life from a personal and family perspective." This is the second in a series of three faculty-led discussions. On September 25, history professor Pat Fitzgerald will lead a discussion after showing a video, "Weapons of the Spirit." -30-
