INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED AT UAS Tuition scholarships are available for a one-year Information Technology Certificate pilot program at the University of Alaska Southeast Juneau campus this fall. "There's a real need for individuals who can fill information technology positions in the state," according to Sharon Crostick, associate professor of Computer Information and Office Systems. "The need was made clear to the university and we're trying to respond by helping to train individuals for those positions." Scholarships will be offered to the top 20 applicants who will study full-time on the UAS Juneau campus for one year and earn 45 credits and a departmental certificate. The program begins August 30. Applications are due August 1. For information and an application contact Sharon Crostick at 465-6363 or Edwell John, Jr at 465-6355. Website information is available at http://pec.jun.alaska.edu/KWSITE/newhome.htm Applicants must be either a high school graduate or have a GED. Crostick said the program should appeal to those already working in the information technology field but who want to upgrade their skills or seek advancement in their organization or those who want job entry level skills. The program will offer emphasis in networking, general computer applications and web publishing. Students completing the Information Technology certificate program can return to UAS to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree. -30-
