Juneau Enrollment Up The UAS headcount for fall semester is up more than eight percent over last year.ææ A total of 1,174 students, including 589 full-time have enrolled through the first day of classes.æ UAS registrar Lori Exferd said the students have come from 14 different countries, 32 different states, and many towns across Alaska.æ New student orientation was a bridge between academic and social activities, according to Exferd.æ "Over 40 students attended the SAGA ropes course.æ Forty students went on an overnight camping trip.æ They're excited and they're ready to go."æ "Many of the students I've talked to," Exferd said, "are committed to staying here for four years.æ They are attracted to UAS and attracted to the Juneau community.æ They want to stay.æ They want to get their degree here." UAS fall registration late registration continues through this week.æ "Students who haven't registered can come out and still be full-time students,"æ Exferd said.æ In addition registration remains open for many late-starting classes. -30-
