19, 2001 A total of $2,200 in prizes will be awarded to winning short stories, poetry and Alaska Native writing in "Explorations 2001." The University of Alaska Southeast literary magazine is now in its 20th year of publication. Submissions must be postmarked by May 15, 2001. The winning story or poem receives $1,000. Second place, in a different genre, receives $500. Third place in each genre receives $100. The winning submission in Alaska Native writing receives $500. "Explorations" guidelines are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to UAS Explorations, Editor Art Petersen, 11120 Glacier Highway, Juneau, AK 99801 or by leaving a name and mailing address at (907) 465-6418. Guidelines are also available on line at www.geocities.com/artpetersen or by e-mail: art.petersen@uas.alaska.edu Awards are made by the founding editors of "Explorations," Professors Art Petersen and Ron Silva. All entries are 'blind juried" by an editorial board of poets, writers and academics. Submissions are accepted from everyone. Each poem submitted is limited to 60 lines. Stories may not exceed 3,000 words each. On the back of each first page of each submission should be the author's name, address and two or three lines of biography. The reader/entry fee is $6 for one or two poems and $3 for each additional poem. There is a $6 reader/entry fee for each short story submission. Checks should be made out to "UAS Explorations." All who submit entries will receive a copy of "Explorations." Submissions cannot be returned. -30-
