April
11, 2001 Registration for summer classes at the University of Alaska Southeast begins Monday (April 16). More than 15,000 copies of the class schedule are being mailed to every address in Juneau. "This year we've combined both the summer and the fall schedule in the same document," according to Registrar Lori Exferd. "This gives students the opportunity to see what we're offering for the next two semesters." The schedule includes a listing of all classes, instructors, meeting times and places, and a guide for phone registration. "This is the document to keep when it arrives in the mail so you can refer to it when you want to sign up for the fall or summer," Exferd said. Students may register for summer classes on campus during normal business hours or over the phone. More than 100 different classes are being offered in 20 different fields. They include subjects such as art, English, computers, speech, history, sociology and theater. "There's an exciting variety of summer courses this year," according to coordinator Beth Weigel. "There are classes for those who just want to enrich their lives, learn for fun, or explore something new. We have classes for professional advancement particularly in education, public administration, health science and computers. We also are offering a Wilderness First Responder class designed for outdoor professionals in early May." Many UAS Summer Session classes begin in May. Additional Summer Session II classes begin in mid-June. Those with questions or wanting copies of the schedule may call UAS at 465-6457. -30-
