24, 2001 Tuxedo Junction, Juneau's dress-up night for a good cause, takes place Saturday, September 29 at 8 p.m. at three downtown venues centered around the tram. The event, organized by the University of Alaska Southeast, raises money for student scholarships. Tickets are $75 and available at Hearthside Books and the UAS cashier. "This is a good time for people to get together," Tuxedo Junction coordinator Tish Griffin said. "What happened in the nation has weighed heavily on everyone. This is one of the events that brings normalcy back to our lives." Tuxedo Junction participants will move between three venues: the Top of the Tram, the Twisted Fish, and a boat providing harbor cruises. Different music will be performed at each location. "I'm excited about the entertainment," Griffin said. "There are two reunions. Bruce Paulson from the Tonight Show band will rejoin the Thunder Mountain Big Band at the Top of the Tram, and one of Juneau's favorite rock 'n roll bands, The Generation Gap, gets back together at the Twisted Fish." In addition, Griffin said, the Robert Cohen Jazz Trio is back, by popular demand, to play on the Allen Marine catamaran during a dessert harbor cruise. The boat will provide five cruises during the evening. A bus shuttle between the parking garage and the Tram will be provided throughout the evening by Gray Line Tours of Alaska. Each ticket is eligible for a Caribbean cruise door prize from Holland America Westours. Raffle tickets may be purchased for a trip for two on Alaska Airlines. Alaska Communications Systems is the corporate sponsor. -30-
