Sept. 27,
2001 A Friday evening fall lecture series begins Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in Egan Library on the University of Alaska Southeast campus. All of the lectures are free and open to the public. September 28, Dr. Jason Ohler presents, "Go Digital or Ditch it All? Perspectives on Living and Learning in the Digital Age" as the first lecture. "I'm going to talk about the art of living and learning in the digital age. How to balance the opportunities and limitations that living in a high tech age presents to us. And how to make sense of all this on a personal level." Ohler said, "Education is everyone's business. We're learning from home as well as at schools. We're learning on-line as well as from books. I like to think this presentation is for absolutely anybody who has a stake in remaining educated in the years to come." Ohler teaches educational technology at UAS. He is the author of two books on the future of technology. The most recent is "Future Courses: A Compendium of Thought About Education, Technology, and the Future." Other topics in the series include women journalists in Victorian England, SE caves, harbor seal declines, other solar systems, brown bears, Tlingit and Haida art, English poetry, and on November 2, Pulitzer Prize winner in fiction, N. Scott Momaday will be the speaker. This is the second year for the Evening at Egan Lecture Series. Most of the presentations are by UAS faculty. -30-
