UAS Winter Scholarship Soiree

The unveiling of the New Egan Library wing is being combined with Tuxedo Junction to create the UAS Winter Scholarship Soiree on Saturday, January 11th at 7 p.m. “We’re really excited to be opening the new classroom wing with such a bang,” Said Pugh. “We’ve got some really great talent planned for that evening and we’re bringing back Monte Carlo-style entertainment. It should be a lot of fun.”

A room in the new wing will be set up like a Las Vegas casino with roulette wheels, craps, poker and blackjack tables. The reason it’s called Monte Carlo-style entertainment is that money only changes hands in one direction. “It’s very similar to a real casino in that we get to keep all the money, only here it goes toward a good cause,” said Kevin Myers an UAS spokesperson. “There will be a raffle, unrelated to the Monte Carlo room, and someone will win a pair of airline tickets.”

The Thunder Mountain Big Band will start the night by providing the dance music and The Swingers rock band will close the night out playing music from the ‘50s through the 80’s. The Psychedelic Psax jazz quartette will be grooving from 7 to 11 p.m. in what will become Spike’s Caf_ on the second floor of the new building.

“ During the interview process it came to light that our new Public Information Officer had been a professional stand-up comedian,” said Tish Griffin Satre the event coordinator. “After a lot of arm twisting we got him to come out of retirement for one night.”

“ We’re trying to make the night as much fun for people as we possible can,” said Lynne Johnson of the UAS Development Office. “But the real reason for the event is to raise money for our scholarship funds. So we hope people will come out and support us.”
