March 4, 2003 The University of Alaska Southeast is bringing the independent film “Manna From Heaven” to Juneau. The event is part of Women’s History Month, which also includes visits by acclaimed Alaskan author Velma Wallis, and Stephanie Nolan author of “Promised the Moon: The Untold Story of the First Woman in the Space Race.” The film was produced by Five Sister’s Productions, which as the name would indicate, comprised of five sisters. The Burton sisters were all working in the film industry when they decided to take their careers and ideals and put them to work for themselves. The women opted for smaller budgets and creative control, over big budgets and pandering plotlines. " ’Manna From Heaven’ is about what happens when you get a metaphorical gift from God -- a financial windfall, but many years later you find out that it was just a loan and needs to be paid back immediately,” said Ursula Burton the star of the film. “It’s a fable about hope and rediscovering their dreams.” The film was written by a sixth Burton, Gabrielle, the women’s mother and author of the novel Heartbreak Hotel. Gabrielle and daughter Maria will bring the film to Juneau for its Alaskan Premiere. Maria co-directed with sister Gabrielle and also acted in the production. The film will premiere at Gross – Alaska 20th Century Twin on Friday March 7th at 7 p.m. Gabrielle and Maria will answer questions after the screening. The film will play in Juneau through the weekend and the following week. The Burtons will answer questions at several selected screenings over the weekend that follows the premiere. -30-
