UAS Automotive Program Meets Strict Industry Standards
The
University of Alaska Southeast’s Automotive Technologies
department has received certification from the National Automotive Technicians
Educations Foundation and the National Institute for Automotive Service
Excellence.
To achieve the NATEF and ASE certification the department when through
a major overhaul under the direction of the Automotive Technology Head,
Tony Martin. “The process by which NATEF certifies that we meet
the very strict industry standards is a pretty rigorous exercise,” said
Martin. “The fact that we are now a ASE training program is great,
not only for the University, but the community as a whole. Students are
assured of a quality education and shop owners are assured they’re
hiring a quality technician. It’s a win – win situation.”
“
This is great news for automotive-minded young people and their parents
in Southeast, Alaska,” said NATEF Board of Trustees Al Duebber. “ASE
certification programs increase cooperation between local education and
industry leaders.”
The Automotive Technologies facility at the Technology Education Center
is hosting an Open House on Monday, August 18 from 5 pm to 7 pm to showcase
the newly updated equipment. The community is invited and refreshments
will be served. The Tech Ed Center is across Egan Drive from Juneau-Douglas
High School.
