UAS Community Day on Campus

UAS Community Day on Campus is a full day of free music by Juneau Jazz and Classics and fun activities for kids, to be held May 28th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities include pony rides, skateboarding demos, and an enormous inflatable whale for kids to play in. There will also be clowns, balloons, cotton candy, fry bread and much more.

"It's just a great way to bring the whole community out to campus and celebrate the end of a very successful academic year," said UAS Chancellor John Pugh. "But mostly it's a way for us to reach out to community groups and give them an opportunity to let all of Juneau know what services they provide. Last year was a very successful event and we are all looking forward to another great Community Day on Campus."

The music begins at 11 a.m. in the Noyes Pavilion with Ursa Minor String Ensemble with guest artist Christopher Kenniff followed by Aurora Strings with guest artists Brett Deubner at 11:30 a.m.; Ursa Major String Ensemble with guest artist Gwen Thompson at noon. Following a break for lunch, the rest of the performances take place in the Egan Library starting with the Guitar Ensemble with guest artists Christopher Kenniff at 2 p.m.; Floyd Dryden Middle School Jazz Band with guest artists Roger Neumann and Madeline Vergari at 2:30 p.m.; Juneau Douglas High School Jazz Band II with guest artists Roger Neumann and Madeline Vergari at 3 p.m.; Juneau Douglas High School Jazz Band I with guest artists Roger Neumann and Madeline Vergari at 3:30 p.m. and capping off the day with the Thunder Mountain Big Band with guest artists Roger Neumann and Madeline Vergari at 4 p.m.

The UAS Mourant Café and Spike Coffee shop will also be open for food and coffee. The Juneau Freewheelers are going to provide a bike valet service for the day, Garfield Katafse is introducing his pumpkin fry bread, Jeff Brown will be tying balloon animals and performing tricks and Michael Orelove will bring his solar telescope, weather permitting.

A full schedule of the musical events can be found at uas.alaska.edu.
