August 16 , 2005 UAS to Honor Governor Jay Hammond A memorial service for former Governor Jay Hammond will be held at the University of Alaska Southeast’s Egan Lecture Hall on Sat., Aug. 20 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The memorial was tapped and a streamed video can be watched over the internet. To watch the video, you must have the RealPlayer installed on your PC/Macintosh. The RealPlayer can be downloaded from Real's website. In 1983 Governor Hammond received an honorary Doctor of Humanities from UAS for his service to the State of Alaska and for his life-long support of the University of Alaska system. The service will open with remarks from UAS Chancellor John Pugh and will then link live via satellite to the memorial service in Anchorage. There will be time after the broadcast for those wanting to share personal memories and stories of the late Governor. The memorial service is free and open to the public.
