Tibetan Monk, Author, Former Political Prisoner Returns to Juneau

Venerable Buddhist monk and author Palden Gyatso will speak Wednesday, Nov. 16th at 7 pm in the UAS Egan Library on his experiences as a prisoner of conscience in Tibet, his commitment to fostering religious freedom for the Tibetan people, and his practice of Buddhist compassion during the long time he was incarcerated. Gyatso is the author of The Autobiography of a Tibetan Monk and is the recipient of the 1998 John Humphrey Freedom Award of the International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Juneau World Affairs Council.
