Alexander Tutunov, UAS 50th Anniversary Performance

Alexander Tutunov is helping UAS celebrate its 50th Anniversary with a free concert on Fri., Jan. 27th at 7 p.m. in the Egan Lecture Hall. The acclaimed Russian classical concert pianist and UAS visiting professor will play some of his favorite pieces by his favorite composers, answer questions about the music and about his life as a concert pianist.

This academic year, Dr. Tutunov is teaching a UAS Piano Master Class during four Saturday sessions spread over the fall and spring semesters. He presents piano theory and technique.

Tutunov entered the Central Music School of the famed Moscow Conservatory at the age of seven; he was one of three applicants chosen from a pool of 200. He graduated magna cum laude. While working on his doctorate, he served as pianist with the Belarussian National Philharmonic. Tutunov was awarded the highest post graduate degree in concert performance, from the Belorussian State Conservatory in Minsk, where he also was a member of the piano faculty.

Tutunov also holds diplomas with honors in concert performance from Minsk Musical College, the University of North Texas, and the Belarussian National Academy of Music. He won first prize in the Belarussian National Piano Competition, and was a winner in the Russian National Piano Competition. He maintains a busy concert schedule and has performed widely as a recitalist and orchestra soloist in the former Soviet Union, Europe, China, Mexico, throughout the United States, and on radio and television.

His recordings include Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Peter Sacco with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, and he is presently under contract with Altarus Records to record the complete solo piano works of Lev Abeliovich.
