September 11, 2006 Juneau Jazz and Classics founder and Artistic Director Linda Rosenthal and Los Angeles actor Bill Blush will kick off the UAS Egan Lecture Series this Friday at 7 pm in the Egan Lecture Hall with Strings & Stories. The show is intended for families and blends classic stories with classical music in a program that is educational, fast-paced, entertaining and interactive. Audiences are exposed to a variety of art forms: theater, literature, storytelling, music, violin playing, mime, teamwork, improvisation and comedy. Following a tour as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Rosenthal was commissioned by The Kennedy Center to create and premiere a show for young audiences. String & Stories was developed and performed during the fall of 1994 in collaboration with Juneau storyteller, actor, and writer Brett Dillingham. Since its premiere, Strings & Stories has been seen by thousands of children across the country in schools, libraries, concert halls and theaters under the auspices of the Piatigorsky Foundation. Friday’s performance is the show’s Alaska debut. In 2005, Linda Rosenthal was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Alaska Southeast. She has commissioned and premiered over a dozen works for violin and has released five solo CDs. She plays on a violin made in Turin, Italy in 1772 by J. B. Guadagnini. Bill Blush is a successful actor and playwright living in Los Angeles. His works have enjoyed successful Southern California runs including This Above All, About What?, Curse You! and Ziggy’s Right. Blush’s love for comedy has inspired him to perform in and direct several improvisational troupes and more recently to venture onstage as a stand-up comedian. The lectures are free and open to the public. For a full listing of Egan Lectures visit www.uas.alaska.edu. - 30 – Contacts:
