UAS Academic Dishonesty Policy:

Academic Dishonesty is willful and intentional fraud and deception to improve a grade or obtain course credit. It includes all student behavior intended to gain unearned academic advantage by fraudulent and or deceptive means.  (See UAS Student Code of Conduct for examples)

Plagiarism is considered a form of academic dishonesty and therefore requires notification of the Campus Judicial Officer and disciplinary action. However, there may be plagiarism as the result of poor learning or inattention to format, and there may be no intent to deceive, some instructor discretion is appropriate. Under such circumstances, the instructor may elect to work with the student to correct the problem at an informal level. In any case that any penalty is applied the student must be informed of the event being penalized and the penalty. Faculty may assign a failing grade on an assignment or may fail the student in the class. Faculty may recommend, because of the severity of the violation, to the Campus Judicial Officer and/or Academic Dean that the student be removed from an academic program or suspended from the university.
