The responsibilities of the Provost are as broad and diverse as the University itself. As well as responding to the needs of the Deans, department heads and chairs, and faculty, Interim Provost James Everett and his staff work with other areas of campus and the Chancellor's office to support and advance the quality of the University. The Provost is also responsible for managing high visibility academic projects including accreditation, student outcomes, assessment, program review, and student academic support. Within this framework, the position provides leadership and support for the University-wide retention initiatives, and a full spectrum of outreach activities that foster and encourage academic success of students. This position works with the academic departments and student services on University retention goals and activities.
On a daily basis, the Provost’s Office handles such vital issues as faculty and staff personnel concerns including recruitment, promotion and tenure; budget requests and needs; academic programming initiatives; and faculty concerns. The Provost works closely with the Deans and directors of the programs and areas that report to the Provost. The Provost also collaborates with the Faculty Senate.
In summary, the Provost’s Office supports the efforts of the faculty and staff who work to ensure that the mission of the University and academic excellence are achieved.
