Student Participation Benefits
Let's face it! Going to college for the first time is a new and exciting experience. It may also present challenges if you are unfamiliar with all the resources your college has to offer you. The Guide Program for Students (GPS) is one of the ways the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) welcomes you to your new home away from home. Your involvement in GPS is a uniquely personal way to introduce you to all the resources UAS has to offer. Plus, having a faculty/staff guide on campus as a personal contact and resource is just plain fun!
- Build professional connections that can last a lifetime
- Learn about programs UAS has to offer
- Get easy referrals to staff and faculty to meet your needs
- Enjoy free refreshments: coffee at Spike's or lunch at the Mourant Cafe with your guide
- Join your guide for walks, hikes, dinners, and UAS functions
GPS guides are here to help you navigate through the newness of college life and offer you a friendly face on campus. And because guides are matched with first-year housing students based on common interests and career/educational goals, you'll find them to be a valuable resource during your first year at UAS.
To participate in the GPS program, contact GPS Program Coordinator Steve Laing by phone at 796-6368, or by e-mail at steve.laing@uas.alaska.edu. For answers to frequently asked questions about GPS, go to Student FAQs.
