The University of Alaska Southeast welcomes anyone who is interested in taking classes for the semester. If you are a continuing student pursuing a degree program, we encourage you to register early in order to reserve seating in the classes you need to progress toward graduation. If you are a new student, it’s also very important that you speak with an advisor well before classes begin in order to get registered early. For non-degree seeking students wanting to take one or more classes for personal enjoyment, feel free to register before classes begin.
Deferred Tuition
Tuition Management Systems: If you would like to pay your education expenses monthly, use the interest-free monthly payment option offered by our partner, Tuition Management Systems. The payment plan is available for a small enrollment fee and includes personal account service, automated account information 24 hours a day, and access to your account through their website. For more information on payment options, education loans, free education payment counseling, please visit the Tuition Management Systems website at www.afford.com. Financial Aid

Financial aid is available in three forms: grants and scholarships (not repaid), educational loans (repaid), and part-time student jobs. Students should contact the Financial Aid office for information and application materials or check the Web site at uas.alaska.edu/financial_aid.
Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver

Alaska residents 65 years and older and those who have used the senior waiver previously may be eligible for a senior citizen tuition waiver, depending upon class space availability. Senior citizens using tuition waivers may register only:
- on or after the first day of the semester for semester-based classes; or
- on or after the first day of class for short-term courses.
This waiver pays tuition only. Payment for course and student fees is the student’s responsibility and is due at the time of registration.
Student Housing

UAS offers residence-hall, apartment-style housing, single rooms, substance-free environments, quiet lifestyle environments, academic honors living and learning centers. Students residing in on-campus housing must maintain full time enrollment (12 credits for under-graduate students, 9 credits for graduate students) and a minimum 2.0 GPA and show record of current immunizations.

Learning Center

Placement Testing

Most English and mathematics classes have specific prerequisites that require placement testing. Newly admitted students and those who have not previously met those requirements will need to take placements tests. Placement testing is available through the Learning Center and on-line, available to distance students. Placements tests may also be required for certain computer classes. Non-degree-seeking students wishing to take mathematics and English classes must also meet prerequisites, which may require completion of the UAS placement tests. Tests results are available within 48 hours after the tests are completed.
Academic Advising

All degree-seeking students should meet with an advisor prior to registration. An academic advisor can ensure that you are placed in the correct class based on your placement test and help you determine which courses are most appropriate for your degree program. Non-degree-seeking students are also welcome to meet with the advisors in the Student Resource Center. Appointments are highly recommended, though walk-in advising is available daily from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
