UAS requires that full-time students and those taking math, English, or computer classes take a placement test for class selection. A combination of locally developed tests and the COMPASS computerized placement tests are used. Tests are given daily during the two weeks prior to the start of the fall and spring semesters and by request the rest of the year. The English Placement Test (approx. 2 hours) evaluates reading and grammar skills plus a writing sample. Many college instructors allow students to take exams for their classes through The Learning Center. During Fall and Spring semesters, The Learning Center is open days, evenings, and Saturday mornings for student testing. (RETURN TO INDEX) DISTANCE AND CORRESPONDENCE CLASS TESTING Learning Center staff will be glad to serve as proctors for anyone taking distance or correspondence classes in Sitka. Contact Lynne Davis or call 747-7785 for information about setting up a proctoring schedule. (RETURN TO INDEX) CLEP TESTS AND ALASKA PETITION TESTING CLEP tests (College Level Examination Program) are given in The Learning Center on request. Also, Technical licensing tests (Promissor) may be taken here. Contact Lynne Davis, 747-7785 for information.
