COLLEGE PLACEMENT TESTS

UAS requires that full-time students and those taking math, English, or computer classes take a placement test for class selection. A combination of locally developed tests and the COMPASS computerized placement tests are used. Tests are given daily during the two weeks prior to the start of the fall and spring semesters and by request the rest of the year.

The English Placement Test (approx. 2 hours) evaluates reading and grammar skills plus a writing sample.
In the Math Placement Test (approx. 30 min.), students take numerical skills or pre-algebra. Additional tests are available for advanced algebra or math courses and take additional time.
The Computer (CIOS) Placement Test is given in 6 parts, depending on the type of course the student wishes to enter. Students taking the beginning computer or keyboarding classes do NOT have to take a placement test.

For more information about placement tests, or if you have taken a test in the past, have an incomplete test series, or want to know the results of your test, contact Lynne Davis or call 747-7785.
