Alan Sorum has been immersed in the world of harbors since 1993 when he worked for the Port of Wrangell in Alaska. He's also been the administrator for Whittier's Small Boat Harbor, and the Port Director/Harbormaster for the City of Valdez. When he did a Master's degree in Public Administration with the University of Alaska Southeast, his thesis, "Northern Harbors and Small Ports: Operation and Maintenance", was actually published by the Alaska Sea Grant College Program in 2006. Alan's interest in and experience with harbors became part of the driving force to create this Career Training for Ports and Marinas program. He worked closely with Eric Olsson and Ray Majeski on the vision of what courses the program should include and he then became the content expert for 4 separate courses. Today, he serves as instructor for these 4 courses as well as being Director of Training for Prince William Sound Community College.
